Another laugh. "Yeah. Let's drop off Mae and we'll find something in the library." A change of plans isn't necessarily a bad thing for Jacob. He's happy enough to spend time with Astarion like this. Being friends.
"I'll cover your eyes at the scary parts with tentacles, alright?"
"Hard to break out of that nomadic life," he mutters, digging out his DVD player. "I get it, to an extent, but I don't think she's comfortable unless she's - uncomfortable. More alert."
Most of his room is the same, though he's added a pencil sketch of hands in prayer that sits over his dresser in a frame.
He notices the movement and pauses. "Uh. Yeah. That was my brother's. John. Norton used the water to restore them since they were...ruined in the chapel."
"A distant relative, I see," Astarion drawls, but he can barely suppress a grin of his own and isn't really trying to. "I'm sure it's far from the only creature with such a strategy. How many 'vampire' animals does Earth have?"
Astarion doesn't quite purr at this, but there's something undeniably
catlike about how he tilts his head into the touch.
"I like your hands in my hair," he murmurs. It's not common that he'll
say something like this, that he'll be simply and bluntly honest about what
pleases him. With some people, it feels like he's handing over the tools to
manipulate him. But not Jacob.
As with most things like this, Jacob doesn't quite know how to eloquently put that it's an intimate gesture that isn't overtly sexual, that something like this is comforting and makes him feel closer to him in a way that he didn't think possible.

"Thank you," Astarion says primly. "No need to do that now, though. As far as today is concerned, I'm entirely invested in your river monsters."

He unlocks his door and takes off his shoes, setting them to the side as Mae rushes in, right to her crate, for a well-deserved nap.

Astarion watches her go as he toes off his boots.
"That would be nice. She seems preoccupied with keeping busy, at times."

Astarion notices it immediately - he's perceptive, it comes with the rogue territory - and meanders over for a better look.
"Where did this come from?"

"Ah. Better for you to have it here where you can keep it safe," he murmurs, leaning closer. "It's beautiful work."

He places a hand on his ribs, where his tattoo rests.

Astarion nods, his gaze following Jacob's hand.
"Does it make it easier or harder, to have that mark on you? Something he created? It...must be difficult not to think of him."

He has Miller's dog tags and the scars from the Bliss and the fires. He's full of memories.

Astarion nods, then leans in, kissing him delicately on the mouth.
"I didn't mean to distract you. Where are you keeping your monsters?"
The DVD or whatever else, he means.

He gestures to the bed and digs through his collection of DVDs.

Astarion does as he's bid, stretching out along the bed and crossing his legs at the ankle. It's really more lounging than sitting.

"Alright, this is when they catch a payara," he explains. "Big teeth."
no subject
"Do these people fish for...food, trophies, to protect their prey?" Astarion wonders, as he snuggles in.
no subject
He curls an arm around his shoulders.
"They sometimes let em go."
no subject
"Rather confusing and traumatic for the fish, but better than the alternative," Astarion murmurs. "You mean medicines and such?"
no subject
He grins as something dawns on him. "You know. They call it the vampire fish because it comes out in darkness and bleeds out its prey."

He holds him closer. "I think there's more, but that's all I can remember."
no subject
"A vampire squirrel? That, I should like to see."
Astarion turns his head, kissing Jacob's jaw softly.
no subject
"Oh yeah, I'll add it to our watch list."

I feel like we can fade on them here?
Works for me!
