Astarion appears at the door a few moments later. The room behind him has good bones - gilded wallpaper, fine hardwood flooring - but the beds are narrow and grubby, and there's no other soft furnishings to speak of. And no windows.
"There you are, darling. I didn't ask - how was the chaos for you?"
He didn't love it, no. But he'll hold out the bag for Astarion, letting go of one handle so it gaped open for him to see.
"Here you go. Let me know if you need anything else?"
"Ah. Yes. I did the same, briefly. Not as much fun as I'd have liked," he says absently, as he's reaching into the bag for the sheathed blade. He can already feel the magic in it is still present, the suppressive edge to the blade still sharp. "Thank you again, John."
He catches the other handle once Astarion's hand is out, closing the top.
"And I'll see you at the art gazebo. When you're feeling it."
So.
Arthur asked for his room to be protected so that the Butcher can't sneak into it without being explicitly invited. For him and for his inmate.
So I asked for the same thing. It doesn't restrict anything or stop you from doing anything but-
I don't want anyone to fuck with you because they're trying to fuck with me. I hope that's okay.
It feels like you're trying to deprive me of what little fun there is to be had around here, but alright
I said what I said about sex and killing, didn't I? This isn't news.
Oh, is that what you think would happen? I'm insulted.
It isn't an insult to not want someone to hurt you!
If someone set up a trap in my cabin and I didn't notice it, I'd deserve whatever came next, frankly. It'd serve me right for getting complacent.
That's not something you should be punished for.
For feeling safe anywhere, actually. I think we might have to agree to disagree on this one, darling.
If you realise that naivety is dangerous and indulge in it anyway? Yes.
So why should you be punished for it?
Because it isn't really a punishment. It's a consequence.
You should be able to feel whatever the fuck you want to feel. And you should definitely be able to feel safe sometimes.
Being on guard all the time isn't good for you. It isn't even good for your safety.
I have answers for both, but I want to answer you properly.
