Indeed. I suspect a lot of inmates just stop bothering after the first few months. As much as John aggravates me, at least he's the only warden to have done so.
That seems... unhelpful. Perhaps we might assume the Admiral knows us well enough to avoid bad pairings? It would be unfortunate to be paired with a person who dislikes you. As much as wardens have their own incentives, I can imagine it's difficult if goals do not align.
Oh, there are inmates here with no interest in
graduating at all. I'm sure their wardens find that terribly difficult,
but on the other hand, they can just leave if it's so unbearable.
He's...odd. And his age and power can make it frustratingly difficult for him to understand the concerns of those of us boasting a lifespan measured in less than aeons.
