Occupying the space once called Needle Little Love, Rags to Riches takes clothes that may have otherwise reached the end of their lives to create refreshed and unique new pieces in a variety of styles. Haberdashery supplies and a small range of similarly upcycled soft furnishings – such as blankets and cushion covers – are also available. The shop’s interior is decorated in cool, simple neutrals, with splashes of colour provided by the clothes on the racks and shelves.
For a very reasonable fee, the proprietor will work with you to design one-of-a-kind apparel, using elements or entire articles of old clothes or other items. After all, LIERs came to Duplicity in the clothes on their backs and the smallest handful of artifacts from their former homes – there’s an importance to preserving them, in part if not in whole. For the same reason, a service recreating clothes in styles the customer might find familiar but hard to source in the city is available – though this is at more of a premium due to the effort involved.
Discounts are available to Submissive customers, and one-to-one tutoring in embroidery and repairs can be arranged.
At the time of its opening, Rags to Riches is a one-man-show run by Astarion Ancunín. It is open Monday to Thursday from 1-7pm, with the option to book appointments out of hours for tutoring or discussions of bespoke designs.
